Dans un level de presse particulièrement émotif tenu mardi matin à l’Assemblée nationale, la députée a confirmé qu’elle quittera la vie politique pour au moins 15 ans à la fin de son mandat, qu’elle s’est par ailleurs engagée à terminer.

La nouvelle de son départ prochain avait d’abord été annoncée par le 98,5 FM, suivi de Radio-Canada. Mme Rizqy avait ensuite fait paraître un lengthy message sur les réseaux sociaux.

Mère de deux jeunes enfants, la députée a expliqué en level de presse qu’elle voulait être pleinement présente pour eux, précisant qu’il s’agissait de [sa] décision et que celle-ci était finale et sans appel.

Je veux vivre pleinement mon rôle de mère. Je veux pouvoir être dans la même ville que mes jeunes enfants et pouvoir les border le soir venu.

Mme Rizqy a aussi raconté que son conjoint, Gregory Kelley – qui siège aussi à l’Assemblée nationale en tant que député libéral de Jacques-Cartier – lui avait offert de ne pas se représenter aux prochaines élections pour qu’elle puisse poursuivre sa carrière politique, une offre qu’elle dit avoir refusée.

L’idée de quitter la politique habitait la députée depuis plusieurs mois, a-t-elle confié, ajoutant que son choix s’était cristallisé après l’accouchement, cet été, de son deuxième enfant, Abraham.

La difficile conciliation travail-famille

Questionnée sur la difficulté pour les femmes d’élever des enfants tout en poursuivant une carrière en politique energetic, Marwah Rizqy a candidement avoué que, personnellement, elle n’arrivait pas à tout conjuguer.

Mme Rizqy doute par ailleurs que des aménagements supplémentaires à l’Assemblée nationale lui auraient permis de poursuivre son travail d’élue sans nuire à sa vie de famille. Elle a donc choisi de se consacrer à temps plein à ses enfants.

Je n’ai pas deux vitesses, moi, je suis à 100 % ou arrêtée complètement, et mon choix, c’est vraiment de les élever, a-t-elle dit en level de presse.

Son aîné, Gabriel, aura bientôt deux ans, alors qu’Abraham, né l’été dernier, n’a pas encore quatre mois. J’ai tellement voulu avoir ces enfants-là, je veux les élever moi-même, a souligné la députée, qui a eu recours à la procréation assistée pour donner naissance à ses deux garçons.

Je ne peux plus envisager d’être une mère à temps partiel qui dort trois ou quatre nuits par semaine loin d’eux, a-t-elle illustré. Je veux être pleinement présente pour eux.

Elle redeviendra professeure

Il n’y a jamais de bon second pour faire ce style d’annonce, a répété Mme Rizqy à plusieurs reprises au cours de son level de presse de mardi.

La députée a toutefois dit croire qu’en révélant tout de suite la date de son départ, ce dernier ne porterait pas ombrage au prochain chef du PLQ, qui sera élu en 2025. Sans compter que la circonscription qu’elle libérera pourrait servir à accueillir un chef non élu en 2026, a-t-elle laissé entendre.

Mme Rizqy retrouvera à la fin de son mandat le poste de professeure agrégée qu’elle occupait à l’École de gestion de l’Université de Sherbrooke avant de faire le saut en politique.

En level de presse, mardi matin, elle a assuré qu’elle ne quittait pas l’Assemblée nationale pour se présenter ailleurs, fermant du même coup la porte à une candidature à la mairie de Montréal ou à la Chambre des communes.

Marwah Rizqy a été élue à l’Assemblée nationale en 2018 et a décroché un second mandat en 2022. Pressentie comme candidate à la course du PLQ, la principale intéressée avait dû répéter à plusieurs reprises que, pour des raisons familiales, elle ne briguerait pas la succession de Dominique Anglade.

Si je n’avais pas eu d’enfants, ma réponse aurait été très différente pour la chefferie, a-t-elle reconnu, mardi.

Une élue appréciée

L’annonce du départ de Mme Rizqy, à deux ans des prochaines élections générales, a pris par shock la classe politique, mardi. Ses collègues et ses adversaires ont toutefois été unanimes à saluer les qualités humaines de la députée de Saint-Laurent, ainsi que la rigueur de son travail dans l’opposition.

Tout aussi ému que la principale intéressée, le chef par intérim du PLQ, Marc Tanguay, n’a pas tari d’éloges envers sa collègue, mardi, en level de presse. C’est une députée authentique, dévouée et passionnée […] Ça aura été, à terme, un privilège pour moi de travailler avec Marwah, a-t-il affirmé.

Des candidats à la chefferie comme PabloRodriguez, Frédéric Beauchemin et Charles Milliard lui ont aussi rendu hommage, mardi, sur les réseaux sociaux. Même Denis Coderre, dont le bilan à la mairie de Montréal avait été raillé par Mme Rizqy, a lancé des fleurs à la députée, soulignant qu’il s’agissait d’une lourde perte pour le PLQ.

Même son de cloche à la CAQ, au PQ et à QS. Le chief solidaire Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois, qui aura bientôt une deuxième fille, a d’ailleurs confié que sa conjointe et lui redoutaient les aménagements nécessaires à la poursuite de son motion politique.

Depuis la France, où il effectue ces jours-ci une mission diplomatique, le premier ministre François Legault a pour sa half prévenu Mme Rizqy que ce n’était pas plus facile de faire de la politique une fois que les enfants grandissent et qu’ils deviennent des adolescents.

Le PLQ a fait élire 21 candidats aux dernières élections, mais depuis, la formation a perdu deux sièges : celui de la députée de Vaudreuil, Marie-Claude Nichols, qui siège maintenant comme indépendante, et celui de Dominique Anglade, qui a démissionné de son poste de cheffe et de députée de Saint-Henri–Sainte-Anne en novembre 2022.

Marwah Rizqy est la première élue – tous partis confondus – à annoncer qu’elle ne sera pas candidate à sa réélection en 2026.

Gregory Kelley, pour sa half, a fait savoir mardi à CBC, le réseau anglais de Radio-Canada, qu’il entendait se présenter à nouveau au PLQ, disant espérer que les électeurs de Jacques-Cartier lui accorderont le privilège de les représenter encore une fois en 2026.
